Extension, and remodelling of existing house
The existing dwelling comprised two linked cottages split over three levels. Below the lower link was the original disused forge, with associated outbuildings. Internally, our client required a dining area and kitchen, an area for guests to stay, and a play area for children. Externally, an area for private relaxation and a further area for entertaining was required. A contemporary infill extension was proposed as a link between the upper and lower levels, which also housed the dining area, with the kitchen in the original forge, and guest rooms and play area within the outbuildings. The dining area linked to the external entertainment space, and the relaxation area was situated on the extension roof accessed from the existing lounge. The quality of the contemporary design, juxtaposed against the traditional cottage, has created a beautifully elegant home.
